Algarve Hills of Monchique

Casa Londrina Algarve Retreat in Nature prides itself on its unique location.  It really is a beautiful, peaceful, countryside property located at the foothills of the Monchique mountain range.

At just over one hour from Faro airport, depending on your style of driving, the unspoiled region of the hilltop town of Monchique is one of Portugal’s best kept secrets.  Many would not believe that this magical setting is actually in the Algarve, yet it is.

You will be staying only 5km (3 miles) from Monchique, a beautiful, rustic, traditionally Portuguese town with its cobbled streets, art and craft galleries, cafes, restaurants and quaint shops selling the local firewater called Medronho, and other delicacies particular to this region.  Although the town is away from the madding crowds of the more famous tourist spots, you will be pleasantly surprised to know that most business establishments have English speaking staff.  In fact Monchique attracts tourists from all over the world, nearly always those of the nature loving, sightseeing variety.

With the more popular, tourist beaches of the south coast being just a 25 minute drive away, and those of the less populated, wild west coast only a little further at 45 minutes, you don’t have to travel very far for a change from the pure nature at Casa Londrina and Monchique.

Whether driving, cycling or walking, the roads, tracks and lanes of the region are extremely quiet.  Any trip in the countryside is pure pleasure as the roads are in excellent condition, taking you on meandering, scenic ventures for hours on end.

Visit the Algarve’s highest point, Foia, at just over 900 metres above sea level, and revel in the 360 degree, panoramic views of the whole of the Algarve from the west coast beaches, almost across to the Spanish border.

This is a paradise for cycling, hiking, bird watching and walking, yet there are still many other activities in the region for you to take part in.  Please visit the Things to do page for more ideas and information.

In keeping within in the law, and for the respect of the, very few, neighbours in the area, we kindly ask guests to keep any noise to a minimum between the hours of 11pm and 7am.
